Today we’re doing a film analysis of Curry Barker’s obsession. I’ll do a plot spo chilling walkthrough of the entire film and guide you into the occult symbolism, hidden messages and fun facts. And I also heard that this was a great horror movie, so, you know, your boy had to cover it. So should you watch the film before you listen to this episode? Yes, you should, right? However, if you’re not into horror movies, probably not. There’s a very, very brutal kill scene in it. And, you know, if you’re sensitive to that kind of stuff, you know, tread carefully. I warned you. All right, Josie. Shockingly like this film, you know, so it’s not that bad. She’s not a horror movie person. So anyways, so if you had any interest in watching this film, please go do that before I ruin the whole, you know, surprises and funsies throughout, okay?

All right, 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

We start out and we’re at a diner, okay? And the main character of the movie is Bear, which is short for Baron.

And Bear is confessing his love to a woman that we think is the main female love interest of the film. It’s not, right? That’s Nikki. We will meet her in a second.

It’s actually a server at the diner because he’s practicing for the real thing, right? He’s his buddy. Ian is coaching him through of like how he can confess his love for Nikki, right?

And Ian is really shaming Bear. He’s really like, oh bro, you’re being so cringe. Nikki would hate this.

And there’s a reason for that, right?

Because Ian’s on some hater stuff, right? He’s hating because he actually likes Nikki more than he’s letting on, all right? And you’re going to hear more about that as the film goes on.

We also casually hear that Nana died, right? Grant, that’s. That’s Bear’s grandma. She’s dead.

All right? And what’s actually going on in this scene is that Ian is trying to sabotage Bear cuz Ian has the hots for Nikki and we find out later that they actually did in fact have a thing.

So he’s giving Bear terrible advice.

Like he’s like, oh, you should call her Freaky Nikki. You know, she loves that. And Barry is like, no she doesn’t. She hates that nickname, right? Because he’s setting him up for failure.

Cuz Ian’s. Because the, the men in this movie are terrible. All right?

Ian even is dismissive of the server because the server, this female, she’s like, hey, why don’t you try giving her flowers and things she likes, right? And it kind of makes Ian mad because again, Ian’s trying to sabotage the whole Thing. Don’t be giving him good advice.

Don’t listen to the women.

Don’t listen to the women about what women want. Listen to me, Ian, your alpha male red pill, bro. All right?

And we’re gonna hit that in the conclusion. That’s what this is. It’s like, this is incel, manosphere, toxic masculinity, culture, all those things. It’s a narrative about that. Okay?

And notice that the diner is called the Monty. And if you look at what the Monty means, it means everything that is necessary. And that is what Bear, our protagonist, wants to do. He wants to get what he wants, and he will do anything to do that. All right, this is foreshadowing.

Now, the scene wraps up with Ian trying to tell Bear that confessing his love at this trivia night they’re about to go to is bad timing. He’s like, dude, you got to do it later. You can’t do it during the trivia night.

But Bear’s like, no, I got to do it now. And Ian’s like, no, dude, you got tons of time. And there’s this repeating mantra that Ian wants Bear to say that all you have is time.

[00:05:53] Speaker C: Yeah. So I’m putting in my two weeks.

[00:05:58] Speaker B: Really?

How come?

[00:06:08] Speaker C: I don’t know.

Yeah, we’re kind of running out of time there, so, you know, might want to skip that stuff you’re working on.

[00:06:18] Speaker B: You’re right.

Tonight’s the night.

[00:06:22] Speaker C: God damn it.

[00:06:23] Speaker B: Are you okay?

[00:06:24] Speaker C: No, I just dropped my crystal necklace down the drain.

[00:06:27] Speaker B: Oh, sorry.

[00:06:33] Speaker A: All right, so Bear goes home, and he goes home to find his cat Sandy dead on the floor.

[00:06:40] Speaker B: All right?

[00:06:42] Speaker A: And you find out that the cat apparently got into a bottle of OxyContins, which is addressed to a woman named Barbara Bailey. That’s actually Nana. That’s dead grandma. All right, so he’s got dead grandma’s pills.

And there’s a quick glance of Bear looking into the mirror. Right? And this is, again, symbolism that’s going to show up throughout the film. This is talking about pulling out the shadow side. So is about the subconscious elements, Freudian stuff and the occult shadow.

So Bears moping around the house, and Nikki calls him to see if he’ll go to trivia night. But, you know, he’s sad, so she has to coax him, and she convinces him to go.

And during the call, she tells Bear that she’s putting in her two week notice.

And he asks why? And she says she’s running out of time. And as she says this, he’s looking at the Clock. And it’s one of those, like, you know, Cheshire. I don’t know, Cheshire cat, but a cat clock with the eyes that go back and forth. Right? And this is again, another reference to time immediately in this movie.

[00:07:50] Speaker B: Say, Nikki, I think we should grab a drink sometime. We have grabbed drinks sometime. She always invites you. Yeah, exactly. I asked you guys not to come to Trivia for one night. You can’t ask her out of Trivia, Bear. You can’t. I’m. I’m not going to let you. It’s a good organic time to ask. I love Trivia night. It’s all I have. I wake up every Wednesday, rock hard, thinking about Trivia. How dumb I just Look. You can’t turn our weekly gathering of camaraderie and skill into your. Your. Your seven year late prom, Bosal Bear. And when do I ask?

Any other time.

All you have is time.

If she means this much to you, and I know she does.

Wait.

Do it at the right time.

Okay, hey, I’ll wait. I’ll do it right now. Same with me.

All you have is time.

[00:08:47] Speaker A: So because Nikki is on the phone with Bear, she ends up dropping her crystal necklace down the drain. While she’s on the phone call, she makes a big deal about this. She’s like, oh, oh, my crystal necklace dropped. Right?

This initiates a sequence of events because Bear, trying to impress Nikki, ends up going to the occult crystal shop, presumably to replace her crystal that she dropped.

Now, something curious here, because there is a superstition about dropping a crystal. All right?

And on a quick little research online, it’s saying that it’s not really bad luck. It’s actually about absorbing negative energy and the completion of the purpose of the crystal. And it’s a sign of personal transformation. All right? Which is another element of this movie is this transformation.

All right, so Bear gets to the occult wares shop, and you’ll notice that it’s called the Green Man. And the Green man is very important when it comes to paganism and the symbolism of rebirth or spring. You see this in one of my favorite movies of all time, the Wicker man from the 70s, because in Wicker man, it’s the name of the local pub and it’s also symbolic of Pan or the Wild Man.

All right? Pan is the goat. Not the goat with the bobs. Different goat. This is goat with the flute.

Pan’s goat with the flute.

And Goat, the flute is a sexual deviant. All right?

And guess who was into Pan. Guess who was into sexual deviancy.

That old Cheeky. Aleister Crowley. That’s right. And he had written about a ritual he did with a guy named Victor Newberg in his book Confessions. And he uses flowery language in the book. But what happened was that Newberg end up.

How do I say this politely? Ends up going in the back door of Aleister Crowley. All right? In a ritual intended to invoke or evoke Pan, which would result in the magicians getting the powers of the wild man. All right?

They wanted the. They wanted to utilize the sex magic from the God of lust, Pan.

Interestingly enough, that’s what this movie’s about. It’s about Bear accessing the powers of the wild man for sexual prowess at the Green Man.

Then there’s another shot in the store of Bear catching his A glimpse of. No, he doesn’t catch a glimpse of himself in the mirror. But you see, the camera is purposely showing us him with his head in the mirror. And of course, the occult shop is where he shops around. And he finds the One Wish Willie. The One Wish Willie is a.

It’s the genie in a bottle, right? It’s the. It gives you one wish, basically.

And what does. What does this mean? Well, a willy is another name for a phallus. So here we go again with the masculine sexual energy, all right? The male sex magic.

And when he looks at the box, you can see it’s made by a company called Tabby Cat. Right? Another reference to the cat, just like Sandy that died.

And right next to the one which willow is the magic eye, which is the all seeing eye of Horus. All right? Now, strangely enough, the all seeing eye is sometimes referred to as the anus in Alistar Crowley’s realm. All right?

Also, when you look at the box of the One which Willow, you can see the. The All Seeing eye on that as well. All right, so it’s trivia night at the pub, and we hear Nikki say she’s talking to a friend. She’s like, yeah, I’m putting in my two weeks notice because she wants to be a writer. Terrible idea.

And Sarah is her. That’s like the other. There’s like four characters, right? There’s Nikki and Sarah, and then there’s Bear and Ian. That’s basically it.

And Sarah’s the other girl. And Sarah’s trying to get into art school called Luther.

And again, Ian wants to confess his love to Nikki. But bears, like, you’re gonna ruin trivia night. Don’t ruin this for me. Because again, he doesn’t want Bear to hook up with Nikki. So, so much so that Bear and Nikki go to the bar to get drinks for the table.

[00:13:27] Speaker B: And

[00:13:30] Speaker A: here comes freaking Ian to interrupt their conversation, right? Very controlling. And he interrupts to say that Sarah’s dad keeps a gun in the safe. And let me zoom out for you here. All four of these people, these friends that are about the same age, they work at a music store that Sarah’s father owns called Castles Music.

All right? And here’s where we learned that there is a gun in the safe at the store.

Foreshadowing yet again. All right, so Ian and Nikki, they head back to the table, and Bears left to talk to Sarah. And strangely enough, he confesses to Sarah that his cat Sandy died. And she hugs him because in the movie, she’s clearly the love interest that he’s supposed to have.

She clearly likes him, and he’s oblivious, right?

So we also hear in the background, you can hear the announcer at the bar talking about the trivia, you know, the trivia questions. And the theme for the night is early films.

And the question is about a blue genie answering three wishes. Obviously a reference to Aladdin, but. But more interestingly, it’s another reference to the wishes type thing.

So, Bear, the night’s over. Bear ends up taking Nikki home, and he tells Nikki about the cat dying. And she just says, sorry about your cat, Bear, and notice the difference, right? Sarah is, like, very empathic and very much like hugging Bear and very concerned. Nikki is a little. Little more indifferent.

And we hear about her writing fantasy. She wants to write a love story, so she wants to feel the love so she can write the story. Now, one other theory that I ended up throwing out of my analysis, but I’ll float it here.

If you watch John Carpenter’s in the Mouth of Madness or.

Oh, man, there’s a very. There’s various films that show this kind of idea. It’s that magically assigned. A fiction writer can manifest realities. Okay, I believe house from the 80s was like this.

And I thought maybe, like, in some way, Nikki is writing this whole story and this is manifesting in the film. But I didn’t see a lot else to support that, so I threw it out ultimately. But it’s another idea to toss in there.

So Nikki inquires if Bear likes Sarah, because Sarah clearly has a crush on Bear.

And Nick even. Even says, yeah, when I have a crush on a guy, nobody even knows.

[00:16:06] Speaker B: Okay?

[00:16:07] Speaker A: So she goes to walk in the home, and Ian, of course, chokes. He doesn’t confess his love. Instead, he follows Ian’s terrible Advice. And he yells out the window, good night, freaky Nikki. And she’s offended by this. She’s like, you know I don’t like to be called that, right?

And she’s like, bear, do you like me?

And he again chokes. And he’s like, no, I think we’re good friends.

She’s like, great. And she walks away. All right, so now he’s in the car by himself, and he’s like, oh, what am I doing? I’m an idiot. Blah, blah, blah. And he pull. He gets out his backpack and sees the one which willow that he bought, and he ends up using it, right? So again, notice what happened here. He went to the store to replace her crystal.

All right?

Because he was, you know, a good friend, an observant, attentive lover, if you will.

And instead he ends up buying a one wish willow for himself to use.

He’s a selfish, terrible loser. All right?

So he grabs the one wish willow and he wishes that Nikki would love him more than anyone else in the world. And he snaps it. Bam.

Now she’s on the porch looking at him, and she walks to the car.

She’s like, why don’t you come inside?

Because she says, I just lost my cat. And then she’s like, wait a minute. I mean, you lost your cat? Okay, this is important because this supports my theory about what’s going on.

Is more or less the shadow side of Bear possessing the body of Nikki, right? Why would she say, hey, I lost my cat? Wait a minute. I mean, you lost your cat, right?

And he asked her if she’s okay. She’s like, are you okay? Right? She’s reflecting his words because she is under his spell. She is sort of identifying as him in some way, right? The shadow is possessing her.

And she snaps out of things and she’s acting odd, like something’s wrong. And then she gets real flirty and she’s like, okay, drive me to your house.

Very strange interaction.

And she tells bear that her father is dying. And she. That’s why she doesn’t want to go into her own house.

So they get to his house and she comments. She says, wow, this is a lot bigger than your last place. And he says, yeah, it was grandma’s and I get to keep it.

And there’s tons of grandma decorations in there, right? Some. Some Werther’s original and such. And he sets her up in her own bedroom.

And because he’s selfish, but he’s a nice guy at the same time. All right? A very. A very complex Dynamic.

And we see the clock next to the bed, says it’s 1208. All right?

He walks away. And she’s like, wait, stay. I want you to sleep with me.

And now the clock says 6:55 or 16:55.

It’s hard to tell. 6:55, though. So somehow we lost, you know, seven hours of time.

And she. She pops the top. Now she’s in the bed, just her bra. And he’s like, whoa. Right? And then she starts kissing him.

And then she snaps out of it. And she screams. And she. Then she starts saying, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. And then she blames her actions on a panic attack. And he’s like, no, no, it’s okay. But.

[00:19:16] Speaker B: Right,

[00:19:18] Speaker A: so now he’s very confused. He gets online using a browser called Probe with an alien head. Again, this is like Tunnels of Set, right? The probe, the alien probe goes in the rear end.

It’s another reference to that.

And he searches.

Does a One Wish Willow actually work? And you see the first result referencing the Mandela effect from the 80s. And I don’t need. I don’t need to explain Mandela effect to you guys. I’m sure you know by now, if not, look in the comments or whatever.

It’s when things change, right? Things change. You’re like, hey, that’s not how I remember it, right? So then we see on a threaded website, people asking, does the One Wish Willow really work? But look at the usernames.

Deja Verge, Baron Stain, Barefax. These are Mandela effect references. Because Berenstain Bear and Berenstein Bears were the two Mandela effect things.

And I believe the time slips are very important in the plot somehow.

[00:20:19] Speaker C: Right?

[00:20:19] Speaker A: And I’m gonna try to expand on this in the conclusion.

Anyway, he wakes up the next morning.

Nikki’s already out of bed. She’s making breakfast for him. And he walks into the kitchen and sees a memorial on the floor of his dead cat. Meaning he never got rid of the dead cat.

And notice the cat is like a sacrificial blood sacrifice. It’s on a black and white floor. There’s candles around it.

And you know what the black and white floor is, right? The Moses pavement of the Masonic temples.

[00:20:52] Speaker B: Right?

[00:20:53] Speaker A: It’s the opposing polarities of good and evil. Right? And what is the shadow? The shadow is the evil side.

And that’s one of the ideas of the occult, is to understand and almost embrace your shadow and understand that you have these polarities of good and evil within you, and it’s all just a construction.

So all Four of these people, they go to work at Castles Music Now. Fun fact, I was curious about this because the guy running the store is Sarah’s dad, and Sarah’s last name is Harper.

So Harper obviously isn’t the owner. It’s called Castle’s Music. So I look it up. Turns out it’s a real store that was in San Fernando that was featured in the 90s movie Wayne’s World.

And this was also known as the place where Richie Valens purchased his first guitar. All right, now, Valens is one of these big. I think he was the.

Oh, man, I should know this. That song, Labamba, I think that was Richie Valance, right? I don’t know.

Anyway, look in the comments.

Was Richie Valance the guy that sang Lamba? I don’t know.

Valance is one of the guys that died in the plane crash with Buddy Holly. They call this the day that the music died.

Ironically, I’m actually reviewing Richard Serets new new book, right? It’s called Tales from the Rock and Roll, Twilight Zone, Richard Seared from coast to coast, and Strange Planet. We’ve collaborated many, many times in the past, and, boy, is this a good book.

And there’s a story in there about Richie Valens, who was apparently terrified of flying, even though he would ironically die in a plane crash. Furthermore, Peggy sue had premonitions of Buddy Holly’s death and even warned him about flying.

So I think the director purposely chose this location to trigger that comparison, right?

Strange realities, magically folding and unfolding, premonitions, seeing the future, the future in the past, Retro causality. All these things are connected. Mandela effect.

So Bear is telling Ian that he’s concerned about Nikki because they’re at the store, right? They’re working, and Nikki was having these weird freakouts in the middle of kissing him and all this stuff. And Ian’s perplexed that Bear was kissing Nikki because he never even confessed his feelings, yet here she is making out with him. So Ian’s a little jealous too, right? And he’s like, well, did you sleep in the bed with her? And Bear lies to him and says, no, I slept on the floor. All right? And Ian’s like, yeah, that would be messed up if you were sleeping with her when she’s in a weird mental state.

All right? And then Ian deduces. He’s like, you know what? She doesn’t really like you. She was just on Molly. All right?

So they’re done working.

Ian takes Nikki home, and Bear goes home by himself. And he’s researching on the Internet for the side effects of Molly. And he asks.

He calls Ian. He’s like, how’s. How’s Nikki doing?

Bear’s like, yeah, she’s doing fine. Don’t you call her tonight? She’s like, you know, busy or trying to deal with things. Meanwhile, Nikki shows up at Bear’s door while they’re on the phone. All right, now, something interesting. When you screenshot Bears browsing page, here is browsing history. You can see if you look that he was researching nursing homes.

Right. What does that mean? I suspect Bear put his grandmother in a nursing home in order to get her house.

The. Because this is a browsing history from June and it’s current. We’re presuming that the movie takes takes place in August, but the browsing history from June is the nursing home. All right?

And I think that he got his grandmother in the nursing home so she. He could move in. And she just died.

Right? That’s why he’s breaking the news to everybody about grandma dying. So in June, he’s looking up nursing homes. Now she’s dead in late July, early August.

In July, he was researching oxycodone. So again, he puts Nana in the nursing home in June, moves in, sees her Barbara Bailey’s bottles of oxies, and saw the pills, and he’s like, oh, bet I’m keeping those too.

Then in the last seven days, he’s researching how to flirt with girls because again, he is an incel.

He’s re. Researching how to play Green Day’s Basket Case on the marimba.

And Basket Case is a song about a crazy, delusional guy who goes to a therapist.

Right. What does he say to him in the song? He says, it’s a lack of sex that’s bringing me down. Right. It’s a lack of sex bringing him down. This mentally unwell person. What. What is Bear?

Also notice the user profile that he’s searching is bb, which is presumably Baron Bailey. That’s his name. Right. But previously, when he was researching the Internet, the logo with the little avatar profile, it says CM.

Who is CM? I don’t know. It’s not listed on the IMDb cast. I think that’s a. An Easter egg of some kind.

So Nikki says that, yeah, I was on Molly and I was wasted.

Which is interesting because that’s what Ian was saying.

So Ian was trying to sort of persuade her that’s what happened.

And she apologizes, and she’s like, yeah, I was acting weird and my dad makes me sad. And she says, you know, I know you like me, Bear. And he asks her if she likes him, and she says yes.

And the music builds and we see a compilation clip of them bonding and kissing. Canoodling, Sexy time.

How much time passes? Not sure.

It doesn’t. Not too relevant. All right. But during the montage, you can see that in her bedroom she has butterflies. Oh, Project Monarch, MK Ultra stuff. And we see them laughing over a meme that says, I want to wear your skin like a sweater.

And maybe they just have dark humor, I don’t know.

And we see Ian getting irritated watching these two fall in love, as does Sarah, because Sarah likes Bear, Ian likes Nikki.

So now we’re at a restaurant with Bear and Nikki on a date, and Bear says, hey, I want to be a food critic.

Call myself three Bite Bailey.

Ian incessantly calling Bear to tell him because he’s on. He’s trying to. Ian’s trying to move in for the block. And he’s like, hey, I’ve been doing some research. Nikki’s dad doesn’t even have cancer.

And we also hear in the. In the conversation, they say it’s like Nikki snapped into a different person.

And notice Bear, when he takes the phone call, he does this against the backdrop of a wooden tree. This is the same tree.

You can see it, the green man in the background.

That is also a clock, by the way. Right.

And the tree could be a depiction of the willow tree. Doesn’t really look like one, but you could argue it’s the willow tree from which the branch of the one which willow is derived.

It could also be the depiction of the tree of life. Not the same as the Kabbalistic tree of life, but what they call the tree of life in general.

So Nikki, she gives Bear a gift at the dinner table. It’s a tiger’s eye that was her mother’s and then hers, and now it’s his.

And a tiger’s eye is a talisman to protect against curses, which apparently didn’t work for Nikki.

And he responds by asking about her dad having cancer because Ian just told him, like, hey, she’s making that up. And she starts bugging out and she’s screaming, no, no, no. And then he drops it. Right?

So they go home, they’re having sex.

Is this rape? Yes, it is.

She is under the influence. And furthermore, if you look in her eyes, she is not into this.

It’s 3:45 in the morning, and he wakes up to Nikki in the shadows.

Shadow Nikki, she is in the room creeping, like, staring at him. And she’s talking about how she doesn’t like her dreams, and they’re kind of, like, being real weird. And she’s like, go back to sleep, Bear. And he does, like, a total weirdo.

And she screams. She screams, why don’t you love me? And she comes in with these flowers all creepy and says, these are for Sandy. And he tries to get out of bed, and she yells at him and says, screams, stay.

I mean, bad vibes all around right now. Okay?

So Bear gets up for work and notices in the mirror, of course, because the mirror is very important in this. He’s looking at the reflection, the ego, the shadow.

[00:29:47] Speaker B: All right?

[00:29:49] Speaker A: He notices that his hair has been cut. So he goes to Nikki, who’s on the couch, to ask her, like, did you cut my hair? Take notice. Nikki is reading a book, but it is upside down. What is she doing? She’s not really reading.

Okay.

And she’s like, yeah, I cut your hair and I packed your lunch. And he’s like, hey, last night was weird.

And she’s like, yeah, I had a bad dream.

And she just kind of puts on this smile. And he’s like, okay, good.

[00:30:22] Speaker B: And he.

[00:30:23] Speaker A: And he goes to leave, and the front door is covered in duct tape.

And when he leaves, she just stands there staring at the door, smiling.

And like a forced smile. And she urinates down her leg.

Okay, not good. Bear goes to work.

He owns his lunchbox to see Polaroids of himself.

And notice that one of them shows the two of them. And she wrote on there, not me.

And Sarah sees this kind of stuff. And. And Sarah’s like, what is that? And he’s like, inside joke, right? Because he’s not trying to tell anybody the truth about what happened to her.

And Nikki packed him a sandwich, and he is eating it while talking to Sarah about how her and Ian are, like, hating. They’re hating on his relationship with Nikki.

She gets a college rejection letter while they’re having this conversation. And she looks down at his lunch

[00:31:19] Speaker B: and

[00:31:21] Speaker A: she says to Bear, what’s the verdict on cat? And Bear’s like, what?

And Bear realizes, because Nikki wrote on the post a note. What’s the verdict on cat? Because he’s. Remember, he’s three Bite Bailey, the food critic.

Bear realizes Nikki cooked up his cat and fed it to him.

[00:31:37] Speaker B: All right?

[00:31:40] Speaker A: They didn’t get rid of the body the whole time. What are they doing in this house?

So he throws up. And he.

[00:31:46] Speaker B: And he.

[00:31:46] Speaker A: And she’s like, what’s wrong? And he’s like, inside joke. Which is kind of funny.

So Ian is having a party, but Bear. But he wants Bear to come and leave Nikki at home, right? Because he thinks there’s something unhealthy and codependent in their relationship. So Bear gets home and it’s funny because when he pulls up to the house, we hear another one wish Willow make the noise in his bag.

When did he buy that? Why did that happen?

[00:32:19] Speaker B: Right?

[00:32:21] Speaker A: Why did we hear that noise? Either way, he ends up calling the phone number because now he’s concerned, right? And some dummy answers and fun fact, that’s Curry Barker, the director.

Not related to Clive Barker, by the way. I was surprised. I was sure he was a son of Clive Barker. Guess not.

And help desk says that, look, you can’t cancel the wish. All you can do is stop living to free her because that’s the only time the wish goes away. So that’s not good.

So Nikki ends up while he’s on the phone with the help desk, somehow Nikki is on the phone line screaming. So he hangs up and he goes into the house.

Nikki’s been standing there the entire day and she’s puked and pooped and peed all over herself.

So she goes to shower and Bear proceeds to tell her while she’s in the shower, he’s like, hey, can you not cook the cat?

And also, I’m going out for boys night. Oh, my gosh, this guy’s the worst, right?

I hope bad things happen to him in the movie.

So she insists on going to the party with him. So off they go.

Now we’re at Ian’s place and you’ll notice the.

The strangeness of Ian and Bears homes. They both have like these sconce interior sconces that are way up high, almost like a garage door light or an exterior light. It’s very strange.

But notice at Ian’s place, there’s a fluorescent light on the wall of a gun.

This is a reference to Twin Peaks and the Bang Bang Bar. All right, there’s your required Twin Peaks reference. The Roadhouse, I think. I don’t know.

What else could it be? Anyway, they’re playing some kind of Jenga dare game. Nikki pulls a piece that. We actually don’t know what it says, right?

But she pulls it, she reads it, and she proceeds to whip her phone out.

[00:34:23] Speaker C: The air was charged by the distant call of a nightmare.

His face was obscured, but I knew he was looking at my chest, each side stretching recently matured to different sizes.

And so come lie with me like the old woman taught us when we were Children, I said. He closed the door and leaned against it. You’re not my wife, Riddle, he said.

I’m more than your wife.

I’m your sister. Hansel flinched and reached for the door handle. I knew he would not leave this place.

He would relent and choose to be inside me like he had many nights before.

If not, I would fillet his meaty form your arm, roll it like a stick of licorice and insert the flesh between my legs.

Hansel is my soul, a love only the branch of a willow tree could conjure.

Brother, you will be inside me tonight.

[00:35:53] Speaker A: And what she does is she starts reading a creepy Hansel and Gretel story about a witch that taught these two how to have sex when they were kids.

And Hansel is sort of reluctantly banging his sister. And there’s some kind of cannibalistic sorts in here that she says that if he didn’t make sexy time with her, she would fillet his flesh and roll it up and insert it inside of her. And she says it’s a love only the branch of a willow tree could conjure. Isn’t that something?

Because that’s the One Wish willow.

[00:36:31] Speaker B: The.

[00:36:32] Speaker A: The willow tree wood stick is what’s in the One Wish Willow.

And it suggests that Nikki knows what happened on some level.

Again, pointing back to that theory that I had floated, that Nikki is creating this and writing this whole realm and it’s manifesting in real life.

And furthermore, she does say, this is a new book I’m working on now. Like I said, Josie watched this with me and she says that he was the brother.

[00:37:01] Speaker B: Right.

[00:37:02] Speaker A: Because. Because at the beginning, Nikki and Bear, like, she loves him like a brother. And Hansel and Gretel were brother and sister.

Now, isn’t that interesting? We’ve got a Hansel and Gretel reference. It’s been everywhere lately. We had it in Disclosure Day. I did a show about that, obviously, in this movie. And Stephen King even recently did a rewrite of this, which I bought and read.

And it’s about a, you know, a cannibalistic witch, deadbeat parents, Hansel leading breadcrumbs through the woods of the labyrinth. Right. They’re navigating the woods. They’re navigating symbolically the subconscious to find the minotaur in the center of the labyrinth, which is what we talked about extensively in my very, very long three part analysis of the Shining. Just was it last year we did that.

We’ll come back to this in the conclusion. All right, now notice Nikki is wearing a spiral necklace. Again, symbolism of evolution, as in her evolving into someone else.

So Bear, which. Which ties into the dropping in the crystal symbolism. Okay, so Bear goes and to. To play the game next, and he’s supposed to kiss the person on the left, which is Sarah.

And of course, Nikki’s not having that. Nikki pulls her out of the way.

Nikki acting very weird.

And she starts. She snaps out of it and she starts screaming, it’s not me. It’s not me.

And she cuts herself. Right.

And. And again, this makes me think of Twin Peaks.

[00:38:36] Speaker C: Right?

[00:38:36] Speaker A: Doppelganger.

[00:38:37] Speaker B: Right?

[00:38:38] Speaker A: Look at the clock. During the scene when Bear starts his turn, it’s midnight. It’s like 1205.

And when Nikki pulls Sarah out of the way, it says it’s 1240. Then it says it’s 1215 or 3am I can’t tell.

Again with the weird. And. And it could be a mistake. Maybe it’s just a filming error, right? Or maybe it’s like time is all jumbled up.

And there’s also weird, hideous faces of art on the wall. I don’t know what it is. Maybe you can tell me.

But anyway, Nikki is. She’s all bloody. So Bear takes her to the er. The nurses apparently won’t see her.

All you see is that he’s arguing with the nurse in the parking lot. Nikki’s dancing.

And I looked it up. The film script says that Nikki refuses care, so the nurse can’t take her in. So that’s why they don’t go in. So they go home.

Bears try to talk to Nikki. He’s like, hey, the way you’re acting is not cool, man.

And he asks Nikki if she’s happy, and she’s like, yes, I am. And he implies, like, hey, we should have some space.

She starts crying, and she’s like, I want to be whatever you want me to be.

And he implies that their love isn’t real.

She gets up and does the creepiest backwards walk you’ve ever seen.

And now she’s standing in the shadows again. Okay?

And while she’s in the shadow, she says, probably the darkest, like, quote, I’ve ever heard about someone ending their life. Right?

[00:40:11] Speaker C: Well, if I have the bed all to myself tonight, I’ll lay there warm until slowly I feel cold like I walked into a freezer.

My hands will feel like they’re full of sand, like when you lay on them wrong.

And that feeling will slowly spread across my entire body.

You’re still in My heart, but you’re slipping.

Any thought of pain or regret will slip away like chemical switch.

Even though it’s quiet in the room, somehow it gets even quieter. It’s not painful. You just let go everything you want were.

And then there’s nothing.

It’s not darkness.

No, sweetie, darkness is a color.

There’s just nothing.

Or you could stay

[00:41:25] Speaker A: as she says. It’s not painful. You just let go of everything you once were and. And then there’s nothing. It’s not darkness. No, sweetie. Darkness is a color. There’s just nothing.

Now this is curiously, this darkness talk I had been researching, man, I don’t even know. I researched multiple things at a time.

And I was digging into Kabbalah and the iron, which is the nothing from which something comes right in the. In the creation of our world. The Kabbalists believe that it originates from the iron and that the Ein Sof, the creator, came forth from the iron, from the nothingness.

So again, another Kabbalistic tree of life tie in. All right, so they get in bed, it’s 2:40 in the morning, and Sarah is texting Bear. And he reads the text and it says to meet her at the park for a very important message. Okay?

Now he goes to sneak out and Nikki is lying in bed and she whispers, bear, kill me, please.

[00:42:42] Speaker B: I’m just getting water.

[00:42:47] Speaker C: Kill me, please.

[00:42:50] Speaker B: What?

[00:42:55] Speaker C: She’s sleeping.

It’s me.

[00:43:06] Speaker B: You? Are you Nikki?

[00:43:09] Speaker C: Please don’t wake her up.

Just kill me.

[00:43:26] Speaker B: What would be so bad?

What’s so bad about being with me?

[00:43:34] Speaker C: I’ve never been with you, Bear.

Just kill me, please.

Please, please, please.

[00:43:55] Speaker A: Excuse me, bro. What?

Kill me, please.

Very dark stuff, right? The implication here is that there are two people in her body and this is the real Nikki.

And the demon, the shadow of Bear or whatever, is asleep at this point. So she wants Bear to kill her before it possesses and takes her over again.

Bear, of course, makes it about himself, you know, he’s like, oh, what’s so bad about being with me, right?

So Bear leaves and goes to meet Sarah in her car. And she’s like, hey, I think Nikki needs therapy. And she actually thinks Nikki is taking advantage of Bear.

And she’s also like, hey, I got my last college letter from Luther. Let’s open it up. This is the big one.

And then she’s like, look, I want to tell you some things, Bear.

Ian and Nikki have been having casual sex and Ian thinks that Nikki is actually with you to get back at him.

So is Sarah manipulating this? I don’t know either way, Sarah implies that Bear should be with her. And just as she says this, bam. Here comes Shadow Nikki, who smashes the window and bashes Sarah’s face against a brick repeatedly until there’s nothing left.

One of the most shocking, brutal horror kills in history, dare I say.

Then Nikki blames Bear for this and makes him help get rid of the body.

Strange part of the movie. They go to the mo. The music shop, I think is what it looks like.

And Nikki says she’s ready, baby, why don’t you go home? I got it from here.

Ready for what? What did they do to her?

Okay, so Bear is in his car looking at the bloody letter from Luther University, and turns out Sarah got accepted. And he snaps. Now he’s screaming. He’s like, oh, my God, I ruined. I ruined everything.

So he goes back to the Green man and he wants to buy another one, which Willow the guy working at. The guy working there is being a real jerk. Bear sees himself in the mirror again behind the counter, and he says that, look, the wish worked and I want to reverse it. The guy working there says, hey, all you can do is have someone else make a wish to counter this or you could die. That’s the other option.

So he buys some of these things, goes home. He tries to break the stick. Sure enough, he can’t break it.

So he goes to Ian’s place because he wants Ian to break the stick to reverse the spell.

We also hear that Nikki’s last name is Freeman.

Right? Freeman. Important name tied to the idea of the freeborn man going back to the medieval times, which, ironically, Nikki is not free.

So Bear is at Ian’s place telling him about the one which willow. Ian doesn’t believe it, and he gives him. And Bear gives him one. He’s like, you only get one wish, and I need you to wish I never made a wish. Which on the box, by the way, it says you can’t do that and says you can’t reverse a wish.

But Ian, being a total jerk, just breaks it and asks for a billion dollars, and bundles of cash fall from the sky.

[00:47:11] Speaker B: And

[00:47:14] Speaker A: there again, like, you could see, like, the wood paneling on the wall, similar to Bear’s home. Anyway, Bear goes back home with his another one wish willow in his pocket, and he goes inside and he sees Sarah’s body, like, mocked up in a chair all naked.

And Nikki’s drawn Sarah’s tattoos on herself.

And Ian is trying to get into the house.

He’s like, dude, it worked. I got a billion dollars And Nikki has a gun, presumably the gun from Castle’s music, and shoots Ian in the head.

So Nikki’s a hot mess.

Bear is, like, in shambles because everyone’s dead. Just about. He ends up locking himself in the bathroom. And he’s going to. He’s going to end his own life. So he looks in the mirror again and he’s trying to shoot himself, but he can’t. So he gets to eat a bottle of pills, he takes them all, and he changes his mind about the pills. And he’s like, you know what? I’m not gonna do this, I guess, right? And he goes to force himself to throw them up.

But just when he does that, you hear the one wish Willow snap in the other room. Nikki took the one which will, and she snapped it. And her wish, right? We don’t hear it, but her wish is clearly to have Bear be obsessed with her because his. His tone shifts and he goes out to be with her, and they’re in the living room, they’re smitten with each other, and they kiss.

But then the pills start taking effect and he passes out and he’s foaming from the mouth, and he dies in her arms and she’s crying and his soul leaves his body right? When she’s about to end her life.

And Nikki snaps back to reality, right? The real Nikki comes back. Back online because Ian is now dead. I’m sorry, Bear is now dead. And the. His wish is void.

So Nikki snaps back in and she’s very confused, right? Like she wakes up in this horror scene wondering what happened.

And the credits roll.

All right, so in conclusion, my interpretation of the film is that we’re dealing with multiple themes of Faustian bargains, possession, incel, nice guy culture, the manosphere stuff. Time.

Let’s go through them, right? Incel, nice guy culture, manosphere. There’s all this masculine references and phalluses. You had the green man and Pan and one wish Willie.

And he’s a total loser, right? He had to coax his grandmother into a nursing home so he could have a place to live. And then she died.

He’s never honest about his feelings with anyone at any point in the movie.

And this is the embodiment of the real conspiracy about the 4chan, gamergate, red pill, manosphere stuff, right?

And notice how the women around him, they all have aspirations and goals. Like, Nikki wants to be a writer. Sarah wants to go to art school. Not. Not Bear. He’s like, I’m just living in grandma’s home, working at the music store.

And he doesn’t pick up on any clues from Sarah. And he doesn’t really care about the cat or Nikki, really. He’s just kind of pathetic. And he reaches out for someone else to fix his problems. That’s the One Wish Willow. Instead of being responsible and owning it, here’s the archetype of what Epstein and Bannon manipulated via 4chan when they were meeting with Moot, the founder of 4chan, right?

To get Trump into office. There’s your Trump reference. You got a Trump and a Twin Peaks reference every episode.

Then the next topic is time, right? The manipulation of time. The first scene, Ian’s like, dude, you got tons of time.

And he’s got that mantra, all you have is time.

And Nikki calls Bear and she’s like, I’m putting in my two weeks notice because I’m running out of time while we see it on a clock.

It’s almost like Nikki’s a time traveler that knows what’s going to happen because she drops her crystal again. The sign of the personal transformation.

Then that search result, the One Wish Willow. There was all the Mandela effect references in there at the Green Man. The Tree of Life clock was there. What does it all mean, right? And then the. In the bedroom, the clock changes.

I mean, the best guess is the construct of time being sort of fluid, which ties us into Saturn, right? Saturn is the God of time and measurements and constraints. It’s also the force of cold, hard lessons, authoritarianism, and you can’t mess with the timelines, right?

Bear wants Ian to wish that Bear had never made that wish. That always goes bad, right? Always goes bad in the movies. Butterfly effects stuff.

And the lesson here is pretty brutal. You get what you wish for. Which leads us to Faustian bargains.

The director Curry Barker was inspired to make this film from a Simpsons Treehouse of Terror episode about the monkey Paw. Again, you could tie this into Epstein if you looked at Matt Groening getting foot massages on the Epstein Air Force One there.

Because in the movie, Bear obviously makes the Faustian bargain with the One Wish Willow. I mean, not directly as like, I sell my soul to Satan type stuff, right? But something in that ballpark, making a deal, he makes a deal.

And trivia night, you hear about Aladdin and the wishes and all that. And I don’t need to belabor the point. You. You know what I’m saying?

Like the movie the Devil’s Advocate, I did a show about the devil’s advocate in October 2020, which also, by the way, had black and white floors Just like we saw in Obsession, right, with a cat. The blood sacrifice of the cat, sort of, you know, in a way, on the floor, ritualistically laid out.

And then you got the possession, right? There are sacrifices made in this film. Nana Sandy the cat, which gets cannibalized. Furthermore, bringing in the Hansel and Gretel reference. And when Nikki is talking about Hansel and Gretel, it’s a trip into the subconscious, the shadow, Right? Because again, the story of Hansel and Gretel is about leaving breadcrumbs so you can find your way into the labyrinth, into the ego, into the shadow where the Minotaur is, and then come back out.

Now, fun fact, the store owner character of the castle’s music in real life was an actor in an episode of the Upright Citizens Brigade on Comedy Central. Him and his wife were in an episode where they played Hansel and Gretel. Kind of weird, right?

And I feel like Bear’s shadow is the possession of Nikki. And that’s why she. You know, she says, my cat died. I mean, your cat died.

And he’s kind of fallen in love with himself, with his shadow. Which could be why we see him looking in the mirror throughout the film. Kind of like Fight Club.

Like, he is integrating his shadow throughout the film.

And also we hear it’s like Nikki snapped into a different person.

And Bear is. And it could be that the whole film is shadow work of Bear and Bear. Kind of like the end of Fight Club, right? There’s like a, you know, ending of a character.

Bear is at work. Remember, he opens his lunchbox and the Polaroid, the one says, not me, right? And then at the. At the Ian’s party at the Twin Peaks Bang Bang Bar, there, Nikki, she’s acting weird and she says, it’s not me. And she cuts herself.

And Nikki says, bear, kill me, please. She is sleeping.

And they use a lot of shadow figures. Like, when he talks to Nikki, she’s literally in the shadows.

And you have all these mirror reflections, right? At the occult shop when he’s getting the pills, when he sees his haircut, when he gets home and he looks in the rearview mirror.

Mirrors symbolize various things in this movie. It symbolizes the subconscious mind and the repressed shadow. Bear Shadow is doing what it wants, and bad things happen.

On the outside, he’s a nice guy, but his shadow is a demanding, manipulative rapist who is willing to allow demonic forces to get him what he wants against other people’s will.

He is clearly a bad guy.

And final thoughts the late great DMX had a song about this called Damien, right?

The snake, the rat, the cat, the dog. How you gonna see him if you living in the fog?

And the fog is the Maya. It’s the illusory nature of reality.

And we are magically drawn to want things, right? Materialism, capitalism through Edward Bernaysian propaganda.

And this is kind of that Rene Gerard memetic theory, right? Humans imitate one another and we’re. We’re. You know, the neighbor gets a shiny red Mercedes. You’re like, man, I want a shiny red Mercedes.

You don’t need it. You got a car, right? You got a 2014 Nissan Frontier with140,000 miles. It’s fine.

It gets you where you need to go. The air conditioning works. But no, you covet the other product. It’s the memetic theory.

Bear could have had Sarah, who was very, you know, attractive.

He coveted what Ian had. He wanted what Ian had. Ian wants what Bear has.

Sarah wants what Nikki has.

And they utilize dark forces to get it. Black magic, if you will.
