The Shining symbolism in Imagine Dragons ‘On Top of the World’ music video

Imagine Dragons released a video for On Top of the World and it’s very obviously meant to show Stanley Kubrick symbolism for Kubrick’s two films The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I don’t think this is anything covert or conspiracy-ish; I just love The Shining  (see my 40+ images for Illuminati symbolism in The Shining). In this music video they show us a version of history where the band The Beatles were actually the ones who were the ‘astronauts’ in the fake moon landing. So let’s take a look…

The first shot is Danny from The Shining riding his big wheel. Notice the tin-foil hat; indicative of a conspiracy theorist. He also has the all seeing eye with that Snogard sticker (which is also on Danny’s shirt). Snogard is a term for ‘dragon’ which is obvious a reference to the band’s name, possibly an apparel company tied to the band?? I don’t know; there’s not a ton about it online:

The window says ‘Stan and Brick’ = Stanley Kubrick:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 2

The crowd is watching the Apollo moon launch, which is tied into The Shining because the conspiracy theory behind it is that the Apollo moon landing was faked and Kubrick was the man who shot the fake footage (see my link for the details on that):

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 3

Did you notice the word ‘Monolith’ at the bottom of the TV? Monolith is a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is the film that the government supposedly funded in exchange for Kubrick shooting the fake film landing. The monolith is the large rectangular rock that shows up to help the evolution of humanity. 2001 used front screen projection, which theorist Jay Weidner argues is the proof for the fake moon landing, based on the footage.

Here’s the carpet from The Overlook Hotel in the background:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom The Shining 36

The house number is 2001; again a link to 2001. We see this as the first Beatle to leave for the fake moon landing:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 5

Here we see the second Beatle getting in his yellow Beetle (no puns intended here), which is the car from the film The Shining, even though Stephen King’s Beetle was red:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 6

Here’s the red one from the film that Kubrick swapped out because he and King were at odds:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom The Shining 42

Here’s the third Beatle, who is presumably Paul McCartney, which I’ll show you here in a second. But for now, take a look at the checkered Freemasonry floor in his glasses:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 7

Here’s where we see it again in my post about the Illuminati symbolism in Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Eyes Wide Shut Freemason floor 4

Take a look at the Freemasonry compass and square in the upper right corner, and also the All Seeing Eye in the triangle above Paul’s head. The band has some ties to LDS Mormonism, which has its own connection to Freemasonry since the founder Joseph Smith was a former Freemason (and subsequently took much of the same symbolism and ideals with him to create the LDS church). On the left you’ll see the Calumet Baking Powder from the film, the cowboy statue from the manager’s office, as well as the typewriter. And the Gemini twins are obviously a reference to the dead twins Danny see in the movie:

Here’s that portrait of McCartney I was mentioning earlier:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 12

I’m not sure if this is meant to reference Jack Nicholson because it’s the Easy Rider outfit, or if one of the Beatles wore this (if you know please comment), but here’s another Beatle:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 9

Here we see a reference to Room 237, which is the room that Danny goes into and sees the ghosts. 237 is important in theories because it was considered the miles from Earth to the moon back in the ’60s when Apollo 11 happened (237,000 miles). Scenic Overlook is reference to the The Overlook Hotel. Notice the red, white, and blue tires, which the film The Shining is full of as themed colors:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 10

Very obviously The Beatles with this famous shot:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 11

Here’s the red eye which is HAL from 2001:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 13

Once they get inside the studio, we see the obvious agenda of the fake film landing:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 15

And finally we see director Stanley Kubrick behind the scenes:

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 16

This video isn’t the first to reference to The Shining, because the film Toy Story did it as well, (see for more):

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 20

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 21

IlluminatiWatcherDotCom Imagine Dragons Shining 22

I’ve got the full symbolism breakdown (which mirrors the post somewhat, but goes into further details slightly) in my book A Grand Unified Conspiracy Theory: The Illuminati, Ancient Aliens, and Pop Culture as well if you’re interested:

I explore links between all of the Illuminati conspiracy theories, the music, film, and entertainment industry’s infiltration, and brainwashing symbolism found in all of these venues (e.g. the All Seeing Eye, pyramids, etc.). Ancient cultures, Nazis and occult worship still play a key role in today’s control system, and I provide insight into these topics, including a never before released review of the controversial and banned documentary of Princess Diana’s murder Unlawful Killing. This film has never been released and I was able to watch a copy of it and detail its findings in this book.

More original theories are presented such as Rihanna’s occult origins, red dragons and their symbolism, and the Illuminati eugenics program being deployed through a transhuman robotic agenda. I also explain how David Icke’s theories of the Moon Matrix and Saturn Worship operate to manipulate us into a false reality.

I wrap the book up with a conclusion of what actually works out of all this mess. It includes an assessment of David Icke’s reptilian shape shifters explained through a legitimate cognitive style model theory in academia called ‘Adaption-Innovation’ theory.

Here’s the music video:

  1. The song title itself may be referring to an esoteric concept, the celestial ascent. The north polar stars are said to be a stairway to heaven. The Egyptian concept of the afterlife involved pharoah climbing those stairs to reign in the heavens which is why the pyramids are artificial mountains, to help his soul climb up to the sky to meet the starry ladder. The ascent concept at the axis mundi is found all over the world, from shamanism to Jacobs ladder. The Egyptians saw the northern constellations as the haunch, the thighs of the goddess through which the world is born. The sacrifice of the solar king is deeply related to the ascent mythos, with Osiris being one example.

  3. Very interesting. I believe you have everything right except the paragraph about the LDS church. Much too broad of a comment to talk about in this video when there are so many obvious and specific illuminati references in this video.

    • I just saw an advertisement on byu tv channel for imagine dragons which caused me to do an internet search leading me here because LDS people we know saw imagine dragons in concert and showed us the movie training dragons and I was always thinking lyrics in Demons were suspect. So I am not surprised to find these suspicions confirmed on your site.

  4. You missed the pyramid on the tv at about 2 mins you can’t really pause and see it it’s like less than a sec and the illuminati handshake at the end… Could you check out Radioactive too? I can’t find anything in the video but the lyrics “Welcome to the new age” make me suspicious

    • the eye was really fast but very eye-catching *winks* but if I got it right it said REDRUM and SNOGARD I don’t know if I missed anything because it was so fast

  5. If you go to 3:09 in the video, the clock in the bottom right says: LUNA00:23:89:00 (for a split second: then changes to LUNA00:03:07:16. The first clock cannot represent the time, “23:89” is impossible.
Also, if you go to 1:07 in the video you will see the clock in the bottom right say LUNA07:20:19:69 (for also a split second: and then go to LUNA00:01:05:15. Again, the first time which was shown briefly cannot represent the time. Whoever heard of 69 seconds in a minute?

Not sure what this means, or if i am just being stupid? But if it’s something, would be great to know if there is anything significant about those numbers?

“Also, if you go to 1:07 in the video you will see the clock in the bottom right say LUNA07:20:19:69 (for also a split second:”.

07/20/1969 is the date of the moon landing.

      Post a Reply
    • 7:20:19:69 is a reference to the date: July 20, 1969 – the day Apollo 11 landed on the moon.

      Also, ‘Snogard’ is ‘dragons’ backwards.

  7. Imagine Dragons has been doing a contest in regards to the On Top Of The World Video. The Camera that stops at LUNA23:89:00 signifies the distance from the moon and Earth (238,900 miles). On the hippie bus you can see the graffiti “Nu Blizzard” which is an anagram for Buzz Aldrin. Also in the hippie camp you can see several references to The Shining (besides the aforementioned yellow vw, the blood red curtains coming out of the teepee like the blood coming out of the elevators, the axe, and the picture of a vw driving by a lake). In Ben’s house there are references to The Shining (you mention several but there is also the toy cars and ball on the table) as well as Clockwork Orange (black bowler hat, checkered floor, statues of Beethoven and glasses of milk). For a split quick second you can see on the test pattern television screen the words “REDRUM” as well as KDK12 which was the call numbers used on the radio in The Shining.

  11. Two other things. Have a look at the number plate on the right hand car in the Abbey Road crossing sequence a second before and after the still you posted above. The second is that for a fraction of a second when then movie clapper covers the shot just after the astronaut falls, the Directors initials are given.

  12. I noticed something else in the scene with the Paul McCartney character standing with his family in front of the square and compass plaque on the wall behind them. If you look carefully above the women’s right shoulder, there is an upside pentagram or “Easter Star” on the wall as well. You can see it at 41 seconds into the video.

  13. What really jumped out at me was the gun on the wall pointing to “Paul McCartney’s” head, where he’s adjusting his tie, standing with his family, and then in the real portrait of Paul. Not sure what that could mean, it just seemed odd to me. Maybe a nod to the Paul is Dead rumours back in the 1960s. The Abbey Road shot shows a yellow VW Beatle in background which could reference The Yellow Submarine movie, which is awash with symbolism. I’m sure the license plate numbers mean something as well. I guess I find myself rather sad over the past few years, realizing many of my favorite bands have been duping me all along. A real life let down!

  14. One last thought, it really is incredible the lengths these bands and the powers that be go to putting all this symbolism in their videos, photos, clothing, etc. You gotta hand it to them for their level of detail. Geesh!

  15. You missed one beatles referrence. As the lads cross the Abbey Road type crossing, and as the first one passes the 3 wheeled car, the number plate changes from MBY967 P, to BEN ISDEAD. Then changes back after tge 2nd lad passes

  16. Otro escena en la que sale simbolismo illuminati es cuando la televisión se queda sin emisión. Comienzan a salir unas cuantas imágenes, y aunque cuesta parar el vídeo, se puede ver.

  17. 1 – When he gets in to the yellow beetle there is a bumper sticker that says “Ragged Insomnia” unscrambled it spells Imagine Dragons.
2 – When the hippie character is is walking in front of the “hippie bus” the gentleman in yellow is Jeremy from the BYU TV sketch comedy show Studio C. Several other cast members appear throughout the video – Another Mormon connection.

  18. I’m a Mormon and Dan Reynolds is an active member of my church too. He would be excommunicated from the church if he was involved in such things. The church is very clear on that. Maybe a lot of artists aren’t in control of their videos, and are puppets, but they woudn’t realise it.
I think it’s good to awake people on stuff, and to be fair, I had never heard anything about the Illuminati before, until 2 years ago, then read more about it, and realised there has to be something. But I wouldn’t say it’s fair to blame the artists. Most of them I’m sure don’t realise they’re being used.

    • Hello, i can assure that most of all artists or celebrities know what is going on, You know when a major label wants you before you sign your music contract they tell about you need to join the freemasonry and be part of the group the ILLUMINATI group to be famous so alsmost every famous person that you see is because he or she knows about all this occult symbolism.

  21. Thank you so much for this article! This clears up so many things. So the illuminati symbols just added to the main symbol of illuminati Beatles doing a fake moon landing, right? This one guy on YouTube made a video trying to make people think that Imagine Dragons is joining the illuminati and that On Top of the World’s message is not that you’re really happy, it’s that you’re greater than God. Now I know the illuminati symbols are just adding to the symbolism of the movie that is being symbolized here. I know that may sound confusing. Thank you again.

  24. It’s not the band who chose to put the illuminati signs. In fact, most artists don’t even know what they are, and aren’t in charge of videos.
Yes, the band is from a Mormon faith, but from what I know, the Mormons aren’t illuminati. They don’t even bet, so let alone try and cheat in the music industry.

    • Then, they musn’t be active in the Mormon church anymore, because the church is clear on not joining other groups, or doing anything that involves being dishonest.

  26. I would posit that they are all the same person…the 4 Beatles and the 4 band members of Imagine Dragons. Just as the Magician in The Game of Thrones when with The Mother of Dragons in the room where they stashed her dragons splits into several of himself encircling her prior to attempting to leave her locked in this secret vault. Familiar with that scene?

  27. Not seen anyone mention these: 1. The reflection of Kubrick in the visor of the astronaut who fell is a reference to the end of 2001 when Bowman’s alternate self was reflected in his own visor. 2. The first shot of the control booth on the TV has six small screens over two large screens. The nearer set of three screens at the top have “ONLY DART”, “OXY FORCE” and “TAME TITANS”. “TAME TITANS” disappears and is replaced with the same image the large screen below it changes to. 3. The “monolith” label is gone from the TV in the scene where they plant the flag. 4. Not sure if it’s relevant, but there’s an eagle landing on his guitar on the “moon”. 5. I had trouble isolating it, but the red sign in the back of the party just before Kubrick is on the “moon” seems to read “001969”. 6. As the jeep drives in front of them after the Beatles-esque zebra crossing scene, there’s 3 lines of text, but only 2 lines of text on the jeep parked in the next scene, but I can’t make it out. First line is USA, second line is a number that differs between the two, and then something I can’t catch unblurred.

If you unscramble those, it’s the names of the 2 directors: Corey Fox and Matt Eastin. They’re probably responsible for the symbolism.

    • Have you guys ever considered that this is a parody of conspiracy theories? They almost seem to be poking fun at people who believe in the Illuminati, and things like the “Paul is Dead” theory.

I don’t know, maybe they’ll all laughing that you guys are spending so much time digging for such obvious clues.

I mean, think about it, if The Illuminati was some big secret, why would they be hiding clues in the first place? Also, seeing a triangle has never made me believe anything.
