“Hitchcock” Film Begins Filming

Today, on Friday the 13th, the film Hitchcock begins filming. It is a movie based on a book about the filming of Psycho (“Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho” by Stephen Rebello) and I’ll assume Hitchcock’s personal life in some fashion. It’s got Anthony Hopkins, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel in it. The film will also have a character for Ed Gein; the murderer whom the book, Psycho, was actually written about (so yes, Psycho was slightly based on a true story). www.bloodydisgusting.com reports about the film:

Hitchcock is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie Psycho.

The film will also star Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation) as Janet Leigh, James D’Arcy (Master and Commander) as Anthony Perkins, Jessica Biel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blade: Trinity, The Tall Man) as Vera Miles, Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man) as Lew Wasserman, Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine) as Hitchcock‘s secretary Peggy, Michael Wincott (The Count Monte Chrisco) as Ed Gein, Kurtwood Smith (To Die For) as Geoffrey Shurlock, Richard Portnow (Good Morning Vietnam) as Barney Balaban and Danny Huston (The Constant Gardener) as Whitfield Cook.

  1. Although Hopkins continued in theatre (most notably at the National Theatre as Lambert Le Roux in Pravda by David Hare and Howard Brenton and as Antony in Antony and Cleopatra opposite Judi Dench as well as in the Broadway production of Peter Shaffer’s Equus, directed by John Dexter) he gradually moved away from it to become more established as a television and film actor. –
